Ideas for Quality Sleep

Quality Sleep is imperative to your health and well-being!

Did you know your body can only digest a day of work, food intake, emotions, physical and mental demands when you sleep? And not only sleep, but sleep perfectly well! This is true! It is estimated that sleep-related problems affect 50 to 70 million Americans of all ages and socioeconomic classes. Sleep is one of the top 3 significant health issues that I work on with people using Ayurveda tools, and treatments.

Are you having any of the following symptoms?

  • difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep during the night

  • waking feeling groggy or low energy

  • headaches

  • congestion

  • bloating or constipated

  • muscle tension and aches

  • blurriness or fogginess through the eyes and in the mind

  • irritability or anger

Through simple Ayurveda - natural medicine techniques, tools, and treatments you could find that your sleep significantly improves, your symptoms clear up and you feel amazingly better all around. Your body and mind cleanse and rejuvenate during the night while you sleep. So if you are not completely resting and getting the deep quality sleep required for your body to do that, you could be on the road to more devastating issues.

Here are some simple tips to get started!

  • 1/2 hour before bed do a warm oil massage with oils of sesame, almond, or sunflower to your whole body.

  • Take a warm bath or shower about 15- 20 minutes after applying the oil.

  • Drink a calming tea like chamomile, lavender, or lemon balm tea. Or drink 3/4 cup of warm milk (warmed on the stove not in microwave) with 2 pinches of nutmeg, 1 pinch of cardamom powder, and 1 tsp. of ghee.

  • Use essential oil aromas in a diffuser or warm water by your bedside. Great oils for sleep and dreaming are lavender, chamomile, juniper berry, sweet orange, marjoram, and jasmine.

  • Go to bed by 10:00pm.

  • Turn off phones, computers, iPads all electronics 1 hour before sleep.

  • Dim lights closer to bed time.

  • Make sure you do not eat at least 2 hours before bed.

Ayurveda treatments that are very beneficial are Shirodhara, where warm herbal oil is poured gently over your head to calm the mind and relax the body allowing a total experience of blissfulness and rest. Abyhanga, where custom warm herbal oil is poured and pressed into the skin over the whole body giving a sense of pure rejuvenation.

I have worked with many people who have all commented the same that “they have never slept so well and felt so relaxed and revived” after having just one session! Taking care of you is so crucial to your existence in this modern day of living. It can take a huge toll on your body and mind and if you want to live a long and healthy life this is key to Live Powerfully!
